Just Cooked My Uncle’s Humba Recipe

If you’ve ever met a Filipino, then you’ve probably been able to eat adobo. Although adobo is a common dish in the Philippines, there are actually so many different versions.  Pork adobo, chicken adobo, pork adobo with dried fish, pork adobo with potato, then adobo with lots of sauce with little to no sauce left at all.   There are just too many to enumerate.

My Uncle Dodong’s adobo signature is one that many people would call as humba.  It’s salty, savory and sweet. It doesn’t have that much sauce but the sauce is super caramelized that even with just a little bit on rice, packs a lot of delicious savory flavor.

I recenly saw a photo that my Auntie Aida posted in Facebook.  So I immediately, asked if I can get the recipe so that I can try if I can recreate it here.  She sent me the recipe within in less than a day.  So with the pork in the freezer, and the ingredients, that I already had on hand, I cooked humba.

I was so speechless that I was actually able to make it.  I think if my Uncle in the Philippines tastes this then he’ll be proud.  It was really good that I had to stop myself from eating more than 2 cups of rice!

Lobster Ravioli (Babymoon Cafe)

On our quick lunch run before our flight back to Tampa, we ended going to Babymoon Cafe.  I ordered something that I’ve never eaten before and I am so happy I did!

I ordered Lobster Ravioli and it was delicious!  I finished my whole plate.  The sauce was creamy and the lobster was cooked just right.

Babymoon Cafe is only less than 10 minutes away from Raleigh-Durham International
Airport.  So if you have about a few hours of lay over at this airport and need a delicious meal, then I would recommend to try out this place.  If I’m ever in the area again, I will sure to eat at this place again.

Aloha To Go’s Spam Musubi

We love the spam musubi from Aloha to Go.  Even though it’s individually wrapped and looked like it’s prepacked.  They actually still make it when you order and then cling wrap it before serving it to you.

spam-2This was a to-go pick up order that we got and when Chris brought it home it was still warm.  The paper plate was something I already had at home.  So it usually comes in a plastic bag for their to-go.

Here’s my first bite!  The rest was history. I chowed all these down before I even got a chance to take a video.  They were delicious!

Mango Juice vs Mango Juice

mango-1

Let’s begin by saying, it’s going to be hard not to be a bit biased with this showdown as I’ve grown up drinking Gina Mango Nectar Juice.

I recently saw this brand at the oriental store during our regular weekly groceries – Philippine Brand Mango Juice Nectar.

The 2 are both delicious.  I would pick either one of these 2 brands anytime to get my mango juice.  However, if I have to pick 1 winner.

I will have to choose the Gina Mango Nectar Juice for the following reasons:

  1. It has a richer mango taste.
  2. The texture is a bit thicker and tastes like it’s almost like a blended mango smoothie but not quite.
  3. The sweetness is closer to what it would naturally tastes like when you’re eating a naturally ripen mango.

The Philippine Brand Mango Juice Nectar was just a little bit sweeter for my taste.  But I do want to say that I have my other favorite flavors from this brand.  I will post those soon!

But please do not take my word for it, in picking the mango juice that you would buy.  If you happen to get either one of these, then you can be sure that you are getting a really good mango juice from the Philippines.  You might also prefer one over the other.   If you do get both and prefer the one brand over the other, then please make sure to leave a comment to let me know.

Hello Kitty Choco Treasure Quick Review

Hello Kitty Egg-1

Hello Kitty Choco Treasure (Chocolate + Toy Surprise) Quick Review:

  • Chocolate is on the plastic egg shell
  • It was enjoyable to unwrap the Hello Kitty wrapper
  • Chocolate taste was ok, nothing to be excited about.  I think kids would like it.
  • The prize is a roll of Hello Kitty stickers.

I don’t know if all prizes are stickers though.  I can tell you that I won’t buy another one to find out.  If I have a kid to give to, then I would reconsider.
